Abelardo's has a new location open on 9th. As I've loved the other locations, I decided to go in and order a few weeks after they opened. They do have a drive-thru as well, but I went inside on this visit. The first thing to greet me was loud English language music with tons of cursing. As in never bring your kids here to hear this kind of loud consistent cursing. I advanced to the counter and placed my order, which was steak fajitas, chicken fajitas, a side chili relleno and a chips with salsa. The way this one is arranged, you get to watch the kitchen as they make your food. The cashier was a younger female and the cook was a guy in his 40s or 50s. Though I was the only person in the restaurant, he was cooking a lot of other meat on the grill. The guy at the grill began work on our order almost immediately. I noticed that he didn't wear gloves when handling the food when he grabbed raw meat with his hands and put it on the grill. Meanwhile I made my way to the salsa bar. This is one of the best things about Abelardo's as you can get yourself all sorts of delicious sauces, pico de gallo, lime wedges, jalapeños and more. The pico was out and I took the empty container to the counter. The cook had to go get the cashier as she was back with the loud music and not up front. She refilled it and I finished my sauce selections. She began to bag up the parts of my order that were complete. When she got to the end she told the cook that there was an order of chips and salsa. This exchange was happening in Spanish, but fortunately I speak it as well. He was confused and asking about cheese and she said it wasn't with nacho cheese, but with "salsa" which here is really with pico de gallo (which, if you're unaware, is small cubed tomatoes, onions and pepper with little juice and a bit of cilantro.) He wiped his recently used meat-touching hands on his apron and filled a container with chips. Then he dipped both hands into a big vat of pico de gallo and put it on top of the chips. Then he wiped his hands on his apron again and went back to his other meat project on the grill. This seems like a health code violation to me. I decided to press my luck by going home and eating the food, but luck wasn't a lady tonight. The next day both my wife and I were feeling digestion distress, unlike any other time we've ordered this exact same thing from another Abelardo's location. Needless to say, we won't be visiting this location again any time soon.

So this location is quite different from the Ingersoll location. I took the drive through which made me feel like I was sitting in a dark alley. Aside from the dimly lit lot, the food is bomb! You get what you pay for. Literally. They are very generous with their portion sizes. This place just hits the spot for me on a late night when you don't feel like cooking.

It's rare to see a late night taco drive through that isn't Taco Bell. It's rarer to see a late night taco drive through that's a few steps above Taco Bell in quality. It's even rarer to find one where the guy who takes your order is smiling and honestly gives a crap about you. The carnitas tacos are excellent and come with guacamole. One taco is very, very big. The asada isn't as good. Look, get your expectations where they should be. You're out at 1AM and nothing else is open. You have no other choice, so be grateful this is the one.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
